Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a computer in my shop to use Courtesy Check Wizard (CCW)?

A: Yes, at least one computer should be directly in the garage where your Technicians perform the Courtesy Checks. We recommend two though — so you can crank out Courtesy Checks twice as fast, and in case one should crash.

Q: What are the minimum hardware and software requirements to run CCW?

A: Courtesy Check Wizard is a web-based application and as such, does not require a lot of horsepower to run it — all the “work” is done by our servers, not your computer. CCW will run on any operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux) and in most browsers. For best performance, we recommend an updated version of Firefox or Google Chrome. We do however, recommend that this computer be dedicated solely to CCW (and maybe a few other business related tasks) and not be used by your technicians to browse Failblog on their breaks. If you are located in the Hampton Roads area, we can provide free consultation to help you find just the right machine to get started.

Q: Geez… what’s that going to cost me?

A: We could help you find a used computer that would do the job for less than $300! Or if you prefer a new one, Dell makes a nice desktop for less than $450. Heck, even a low-end machine from Wa

Q: What if that computer crashes? Will I still be able to perform Courtesy Checks?

A: Unfortunately, if that is your only computer, no. But the good news is that none of your Courtesy Checks are actually stored on that computer, they are stored on our servers. No need to worry about backing up or losing your data if that computer dies.

Q: Wait… all my customer data is on your servers? I don’t like the sound of that!

A: Relax. Your data is completely private and will only be seen by you and anyone you give your username and password too (employees). It’s all spelled out in the Privacy Policy.

Q: Do I need an Internet connection in my shop to use Courtesy Check Wizard?

A: Yes, the computer(s) used to run Courtesy Check Wizard should be connected to the Internet, preferably on an “always on” connection like Cable or DSL. If you are in Hampton Roads, we can provide free consultation on that too.

Q: If my Internet connection goes down, can I still use Courtesy Check Wizard?

A: Currently, no. If you lose your Internet connection you will not be able to continue using Courtesy Check Wizard. However, new technologies will soon be available that will allow Courtesy Check Wizard to continue running when your connection goes down, then sync back up to our servers when your connection becomes available again. AEI DataWorks is working to find the right solution to solve that problem.

Q: Do I need a printer in my shop to use Courtesy Check Wizard?

A: Not necessarily — emailing the report to your customers is a great option — it saves paper and helps you build a customer emailing list. But your customers are probably going to hope/expect to receive a printed copy of their Courtesy Check when they leave. If you are in Hampton Roads, we can provide free consultation to help you find a cheap, reliable printing solution.

Q: OK, so how much does it cost?

A: Hop on over to our Pricing page to find the right package for you.
